My Work

Newt

Newt. This is quite an old project. I made this staggered Newt and pond weed, for The North Moore Trust. They made a sensory garden and pond, and commissioned me to make this sculpture for them. Its made from multiple woods, including: Maple, Laburnum and Oak. The trust needed a sculpture that was tactile, something people could walk around, feel out and enjoy, without necessarily seeing it. Therefore I made the Newt accessible to the surrounding path and used varying textured finishes throughout it's various surfaces.

Buster

Buster. Buster is a wicked little Mexican dog, owned by Vinnie and Andrea. They own and run Hostel Chalupa, Tulum, Mexico. The wooden Buster I have made, is in homage to the real 1. He's made from CheChen, a very hard Mexican wood. I've gone for a "Posada" style, (Posada was a famed Mexican artist, that was a bit of a trail blazer, in the day of the dead type art, style, macabre eccentricities and movement I guess?) so Buster is a skeleton. He's made from 1 single piece, aside from his beard and mohawk.

Seahorse-sign

Seahorse-sign. More Zamas (please check Zamas bench, to learn what I'm on about) stuff here. This is a sign, in the form of a seahorse, incorporating the letters from Zamas, within it's fins and tail. It's made from Sapote, painted and has a wee marble for an eye. A nice thing, slightly impractical as a sign, oooops.

Zamas bench

Zamas bench. I love Zamas!!! Zamas is an amazing beach front cabana hotel/restaurant thing, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico. Tulum to be precise. I wont bang on too much about how amazing Tulum is, but it is wicked, amazing, beautiful, future home, fun, healthy and such a happy place. :))) Zamas is owned by Danny and Susanna. Beautiful fun hippy people that built Zamas up, since the late 80's. They are gringos, but raised their beautiful girls there, and have lived there 30 odd years. During all of which, Zamas has boasted the best live music in Tulum several nights a week. The place is rocking. In the best possible way. I miss all the Zamas People, xxxxx.

Orangutan

This little fella is a baby Orang-utan. I made him November 2012, for SoS (Sumatran Orang-utan Society). He's pretty much the best thing I've ever made. As lovely as the SoS lot are, they totally messed up "Spikes" sale, selling him for half his minimum required sale price, while I was out of the country working in Mexico. Bad times.

Orange table

This is another resin table. It's made with elm, walnut, mdf, acrylic, resin and lacquer. I like contrasting the burred anded knarled old elm boards with the modern lacquered finish. I want to do a lot more of this kind of work, but as yet, I can't find the clients.....
